IT'S A UNIQUE MIXTURE OF
LIVE KARAOKE AND MUSICAL IMPROV...
WITH A GAME BOARD!

May 2015 winner, Samara Dunn, explains it all for you.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

Contestants compete two at a time in rounds.
The first competitor will choose from one of five themed categories listed on the Game Board, at which point a song will be revealed. They will then decide to either sing the song or pass it to the second competitor.
The contestant singing the song will then be given a copy of the sheet music and 30 seconds to work with the pianist before they sing.
After each contestant performs, the judges will select a winner to advance to the next round. The game continues in this fashion until a final winner is selected.

BUT I DON'T KNOW THE SONG!

Well, that's half the fun of The Cabaret Showdown!
The simple answer: IMPROVISE! Our judges choose the winners based on how well they are able to hold the stage when thrown a song they may or may not know. So show us your stuff!
However, if a contestant absolutely does not know the song and doesn't want to wing it, they will have the one-time option of using a lifeline, selecting someone from out of the audience to sing in their place. (Keep in mind that if that person enables you to move to the next round and you do not know the song again, then they will take your place for the rest of the Cabaret Showdown.) So, we encourage you to bring friends who can be your lifeline and cheer you on from the audience.
